Known
for his remarkable versatility
in the number of percussion
instrument he plays, both in Western and Chinese
percussion
instrument, Ngoh
Kheng Seng has established himself as one of the
most promising up and coming performers and instructors
in percussion
music performing and education today.
Currently a percussionist with the Singapore
Chinese Orchestra
(SCO) and active member in the percussion community, Ngoh
is also a freelance
percussionist (1987 - 1997) for the Singapore
Symphony Orchestra (SSO) and
the Singapore Lyric
Theatre. Besides coaching
percussionist in schools, he also works closely with the SCO's
Education
Department who started percussion learning modules for standard western
percussion instrument. In 2001,
Ngoh led and successfully organized the National Youth
Percussion Festival, aimed at educating young percussionists on
ensemble playing, improving their skills and playing as an ensemble.
Through his hardwork and commitment, the Festival has since become an
annual event and in 2003 attracted over 160 students from various
secondary schools and tertiary institutions. Ngoh developed
his passion
for percussion instrument in his
early school days and his talent nourished when he joined the Singapore
Youth Orchestra (SYO)
where he studied under the tutelage of
Gregorz Markewics and Lim Meng Keh, both from the SSO. In 1993
& 1994, he was awarded the "Most
Outstanding
Percussionist" by the SYO Music Director Lim Yau. Ngoh was
also the 1st
percussionist to participate in the 1st Asian Youth Orchestra in 1990
conducted by the re-owned Sir Yehudi Menuhin. In 2000, he participated
under SYO in the World re-owned Aberdeen International Youth Festival
2000.
As a professional percussion performer, his solo recital in
2000
with the SCO was a sold-out concert. The concert also received raved
reviews from the international critics.
Ngoh is now dedicating most of his time in training young and
enthusiastic percussion students who are ambitious to become
professional performers. Most of his students have scored distinction
in recent ABRSM percussion examination.
