Key (Mechanical) Tuned Djembe

The significant details of key tuned, or mechanically tuned, african djembes is a metal rim that fits around the head and is kept secure and snug to the drum body with the metal tuning hooks. Most beginner players seek the mechanical tuning system because it is relatively easy to understand and cuts down on tuning time -- the tuning is simpe, merely use the wrench and begin tightening the bolts found on each tuning hook as you go around the head. Tightening the bolts will tighten the skin thus raising the pitch of your djembe head.

As in our youth and student djembes, these mechanically tuned djembes generally come in 3 sizes. The 8" and/or 10" would be just right for players age 5-11. The 12" and 14" djembes would be the choice for drummers age 12 and up.
